The historical old part of the city is a top tourist attraction characterised by a delightful Mediterranean feel in summer. Families can stroll through the pedestrianised cobbled streets, stopping off at whatever takes their fancy without having to worry about traffic.

Children will be amazed by the sight of the unique Triple Bridge, where a group of three bridges converges at a single point in the old town. Children can race along the three prongs to see who is first at the other end while adults gaze down over the balustrades at the water below.

There is always something going on at this city square, which is named after Slovenia's national poet France Prešeren. Get children to hunt for the statue of Prešeren's Julia, his muse and the target of his unrequited love, to be found on the façade of her home in a nearby street.

Another exciting way of seeing the sights of the city: bowling down the river on a boat cruise. Nutrias can sometimes be spotted here, making this an unforgettable experience for youngsters.

Dating back to the Middle Ages, the historic castle offers a spectacular 360° view of the town. Use the funicular to get to the top: kids will be entranced by the ride.
