John Malkovich, the Undisputed Star of the Evening in the Grand Union Hall

On the 20 July, the sold-out Grand Hotel Union's hall provided the venue for a musical spectacle featuring one of the most prominent Italian chamber ensembles, I Solisti Aquilani, and guests. The guest appearances included the well-known American stage and screen actor, director and producer, John Malkovich, who garnered a great deal of attention and enthusiasm. The musical event, which was held in the magnificent Grand Union Hall as part of the 65th Ljubljana Festival, attracted numerous music aficionados and featured the I Solisti Aquilani ensemble, as well as the violinist Lana Trotovšek and the pianist Anastasya Terenkova. They were joined on stage by the star of a number of great hit films, who has throughout his career starred in more than 70 films and has received numerous awards for his work. John Malkovich added his voice to the concert with his interpretation of texts from the chapter “Report on the Blind” from Ernesto Sabato’s novel On Heroes and Tombs. The concert was received with much enthusiasm and the performers earned a rapturous applause lasting several minutes. After the end of the cultural programme, the stars of the evening gathered at Restaurant and Bar Atelje, where a one-of-a-kind culinary experience was prepared for them. Mr Malkovich was greatly impressed with Atelje's top-notch cuisine. He feasted on Mohant cheese-and-nettle ravioli, chanterelles and truffles as a starter, and was then served lamb, tarragon, smoked yoghurt, kimchi and garlic for the main course. He also gave special praise to Slovenian wines – he was particularly enamoured with our Cabernet Sauvignon served with the dinner. The celebrated actor did not have much time to see Slovenia, because he was in Ljubljana first and foremost for work, and he is travelling to Udine in Italy next, where he will continue the project. But – according to what he wrote in our Guest Book – he will gladly return to Ljubljana on another occasion.
