Dating back to the Middle Ages, the historic castle on its wooded hilltop offers a spectacular view of the town from the ramparts. The castle is served by a funicular for anyone unable to cope with the steep climb to the top. This oval-shaped city square is a favoured meeting spot for tourists and locals. Admire the statue of Slovenia’s national poet France Prešeren and savour the magnificent architecture of the elegant late 19th century buildings.
A hive of color and activity, Central Market is where locals go to shop, savor and socialize. There is an open-air market, a covered market and a series of little food shops lining the river. These stores are known as Plečnik's Market after Ljubljana's famous architect Jože Plečnik who designed this part of the market. And while you're here, don't fail to sample some local produce at the many street kiosks, cafés and restaurants.
Escape the hustle and bustle of the city in the magnificent setting of Tivoli Park, designed by French engineer Jean Blanchard in 1813. Stroll down avenues of leafy chestnuts and admire the statues and fountains in the grounds or stop off for a few moments at the delightful café.
When it comes to tourist attractions in Ljubljana, visitors are spoilt for choice. They can take the funicular to the imposing hilltop castle, admire the unique Triple Bridge or visit the baroque Cathedral of Saint Nicholas.
